The course aims to develop a general knowledge of the pedagogical debate (theories, models, ideas on education) from the second half of the XIX Century to the present time.

The scientific debate and the culture of education between the XIX and the XX Century.

The culture of Positivism and the theories on education.

The 'New Education' movement in the early Twentieth Century.

Tha Active School and the Progressive Education as pedagogical models.

The predominance of the idealistic address in the Italian pedagogical debate at the beginning of the Twentieth Century.

The crisis of the modernity and its consequences on the pedagogical debate.

The Sciences of Education within the recent panorama of the Human Sciences.

The educational research in the second half of the Twentieth Century: main areas and developments.

The Cultural Revolution of the Sixties and the development of the critical pedagogy.

The rebellion and the culture of 'dissent': the crisis of education at the turning point of the Seventies.

Education, Emancipation, Human Rights in the actual panorama.
