Learning Objectives

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The course intends to introduce the student to the reading of the history of the school and of the educational institutions through the use of methodological and critical tools offered by the annalistic and post-annalistic historiographic tradition. At the end of the course the student must possess a critical knowledge on the correspondence between political mandate, pedagogical theories, school legislation and educational practices.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

  • Ability to place the role of the school within the dynamic nature-culture;
  • Ability to analyze pedagogical principles and school reforms in the relevant political and social system;
  • Ability to use critical categories to analyze social change.

PREREQUISITES

Knowledge of the main educational theories and practices.

Mastery of specific language.


Detailed Course Content

The course is divided into three modules: the first will focus on methodological issues; the second, will provide an overview of the history of the Italian school, the third will focus on the role of work within educational institutions.

Specifically, the course intends to pursue the acquisition of the following contents:

  • Knowledge of the methodological tools of historical-educational research;
  • Knowledge of the general framework of development of the history of the Italian school;
  • Knowledge of the coordinates of the concept of school;
  • Knowledge of the coordinates of the educational value inherent in the concept of work.
