Expected Learning Outcomes

The workshop aims to provide students, engaged in archival research concerning the
school history and educational institutions, with the methodological tools of
archival research. By viewing a collection of acts from educational
institutions and personal files of teachers and students, we will observe how
to proceed from the selection to the processing of the archival document. By
the end of the workshop, students will have acquired skills to contextualize and
interpret the archival materials.
The expected learning objectives, declined according to the Dublin Descriptors, are the following:

Knowledge and understanding (DD1)

  • Knowing theories and models in the pedagogical area to interpret educational and training events in a historical-evolutionary and political-economic perspective (of1)

Knowledge and applied understanding (DD2)

  • Link the theoretical and methodological contents learned to the interpretation of past, present, future events and processes (of2)

  • Knowing how to summarize the different approaches present in the theories of education and training (of4)

  • Knowing how to communicate and share the analysis of events starting from the knowledge of one's professional field (of5)



Course Structure

The workshop will focus on collaborative activities conducted in small groups and archival practices. The students will work collaboratively to investigation process to select, analyze and interpret the different primary sources and archival materials to the relevant historical context of study program.

Basic knowledge of the history of pedagogy and education

The archive: definition and function. Different types of archives. Selection and use of archival source. Documentary analysis. Description archival document.
