STATISTICA PER IL TURISMO

Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: BENEDETTO TORRISI

Expected Learning Outcomes

Study of methods and statistical applications for the development of tourism management sectors

Course Structure

LESSONS + FOCUS GROUP + PRACTICAL SIMULATIONS

The lessons will be mainly practical. The theoretical part will represent the introduction and general knowledge of the individual topics. Each student will follow the course (also in group or team form) through their own PC so that the practical part will be the practical contextualization of exercises and applications in real time.

Required Prerequisites

During the training course, the minimum knowledge of basic statistics will also be developed to understand and apply what is foreseen in the course objectives.

Attendance of Lessons

Constant attendance is recommended, since the teaching model, in addition to having a basis with texts, presents content innovations on practical cases often not covered in existing books on the market. Therefore, participation in the lessons is necessary to achieve the objectives mentioned above.

Detailed Course Content

Teaching methods: lectures with the use of slides, excel, statistical software, classroom discussions, external testimonials, case studies

Audit methods or examination:

- Written test (practical test): YES

- Oral test (theory test): YES

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The following will be assessed:-

- problem solving skills: in relation to the objectives proposed to the candidate in terms of solving case studies, the candidate must identify the statistical techniques or statistical indicators most suitable for solving the problem;

- analysis and reporting skills: based on the objectives, the candidate, after having processed the collected data and generated results, must be able to read and interpret the results;

- theoretical and practical knowledge of methodological issues: in this case, the in-depth study of the recommended text(s) and the complete teaching material provided (slides, exercises and simulations in Excel), represent the tools to refine the language and knowledge of the methodological aspects of the subject. In this third phase, the candidate must demonstrate that he has acquired theoretical and practical knowledge.

Grading scale:

poor (grade <18/30i)

almost sufficient (grade 18/30i)

sufficient (18-22 /30i)

more than sufficient (22-24/30i)

good (24-26/30i)

excellent (26-28/30i)

excellent (28-30/30i + honors)

Assessment of preparation:

tends to ascertain the achievement of the training objectives and is carried out through

- written test YES

- oral test: YES

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

  • Minimum knowledge required to pass the exam:

  • Composition of data sets;

  • official statistical sources;

  • development of a statistical report;

  • Calculation of specific statistical indicators for the analysis of tourism supply and demand

  • Applications and analysis of relationship measures between variables
