METHODOLOGY OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH WITH LABORATORY 2
Module LABORATORY OF METHODOLOGY OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH

Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: GIUSEPPE CARMELO PILLERA

Expected Learning Outcomes

The workshop will focus on applying the knowledge and methodologies illustrated in the course, particularly with regard to quality assessment in early childhood contexts, through a simulation activity aimed at practising structured observation techniques.

Course Structure

The workshop will be intensive and will focus on simulations and exercises, including group work, relating to the use of the ITERS (Infant-Toddler Environmental Rating Scale) and descriptive statistical analysis (central tendency and dispersion), discussion and presentation (tables and graphs) of data.

Required Prerequisites

To attend the workshop, participants are required to have:

- basic pedagogical knowledge of early childhood and nursery education;

- basic skills in using MsWord, MsExcel, MsPowerPoint or similar software;

- attendance of the module Metodology of educational research and/or at least the reading of the recommended texts.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance at the laboratory is mandatory.

Detailed Course Content

The workshop will offer students the opportunity to explore some of the main topics covered in the module Metodology of educational research, such as quality assessment in early childhood contexts and structured observation techniques. In particular, through simulation and practical exercises, students will be guided in the use of the ITERS (Infant-Toddler Environmental Rating Scale) and in the analysis, discussion and presentation of results.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

Students will be required to submit a multimedia presentation, produced in groups of approximately 5 people, which represents an evaluative summary of the observation simulation carried out.

The projects will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

- methodological accuracy;

- ability to summarise and interpret;

- quality of the multimedia presentation;

- collaboration and management of group work;

- theoretical references and reflectiveness.
