KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- Acquire theoretical and operational tools, to: devise and develop, coherently monitor and direct, models and practices for the implementation of environmental education in the perspective of educational tourism;
- Acquire useful skills for the analysis of the cultural and educational dynamics of a tourism sector
- Acquire te ability of reconciling the protection of ecosystems and the promotion of sustainable development and well-being in the various territorial contexts (local, regional, national, European) and with particular reference to Sicily.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
To be able to make use, critically and with reference to tourism, of concepts structuring environmental education, in a reciprocity between environment and culture that is also a fundamental element of human identity and the attestation of democratic processes and inclusion.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
- To critically evaluate and qualify the information acquired
- To formulate flexible decisions in conditions of uncertain and limited information
These results will be achieved and verified:
- during the intermediate and final tests
- during simulation activities of research and design methods
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- To disseminate, orally or in writing and by multimedia means, the decisions taken by clarifying the relationships between objectives, constraints and actors involved in implementation
- To develop negotiation, cooperation and mediation processes with public and private actors
These results will be achieved and verified:
- during the presentations of group work in class and the discussion on the design
- during the intermediate and final tests, in which the presentation skills and the clarity with which the student is able to communicate the skills acquired are verified.
LEARNING SKILLS
To develop those learning skills that allows to continue studying independently.
Course Structure
Lectures and laboratory activities.
During the lessons, also to verify the learning goals and expand the training offer, the following laboratory activities may be carried out:
- exercises in small and medium groups with sharing in plenary;
- working and in-depth groups on the proposed topics;
- planning of educational tourism activities concerning environmental education and sustainable development;
- seminar and workshop activities with expert professionals in the sector

Attendance of Lessons
Attendance to lectures is not compulsory, however it is strongly recommended for the peculiar teaching methods and methodologies with which the course is delivered.
Detailed Course Content
The following topics will be discussed and deepened:
- - Environmental education and sustainable development as a practice aimed at promoting, with particular reference to the tourist experience, inclusive processes, intercultural dialogue, environmental protection, active and responsible citizenship;
- School tourism as a practice of environmental education and sustainable development at school;
- Theory and training practices aimed at enhancing dissonant cultural heritage and proximity tourism;
In-depth studies are also planned through educational laboratory activities in the presence of experts in the field.

Learning Assessment Procedures
Oral exam (according to the official calendar, published on the website by DISFOR)
The criterion for evaluating learning is the grade expressed in thirtieths and will take into account the knowledge relating to the proposed contents, the level of depth of the study topics, the mastery and appropriateness of the specific language of the discipline, the clarity of exposition, the critical and argumentative skills.
In more detail, the evaluation elements are specified:
- Thematic breadth and organic nature of treatment;
- Lexical correctness with reference to contents and methods;
- Ability to critically re-elaborate knowledge;
- Ability to organize knowledge according to specific objectives;
- Ability to refer knowledge to design and operational contexts.
