Expected Learning Outcomes

The French language course involves the achievement and/or strengthening of communicative functions and the corresponding morpho-syntactic structures suitable for achieving know-how, in terms of oral and written skills, corresponding to a B1+ exit level (CEFR). The teaching also aims to achieve transversal methodological skills in translation.

The training objectives, broken down according to the Dublin Descriptors, are the following:

Knowledge and understanding (DD1)

• Know general issues relating to pedagogy and translation

Applied knowledge and understanding (DD2)

• Know how to reformulate texts in your own disciplinary sector

• Know how to carry out searches in dictionaries also through the use of technologies

Making judgments (DD3)

• Know how to integrate one's knowledge to express personal judgments 

Communication skills (DD4)

• Know how to dialogue, negotiate, argue using relevant vocabulary

• Know how to write written texts of various kinds.

Learning ability (DD5)

• Know how to identify one's training needs and enhance the learning method


Course Structure

The proposed teaching methods will mainly be those of participatory lessons and cooperative activities to stimulate motivation, discussion and active participation; the frontal lessons will be limited to the phases of systematization and metalinguistic reflection.

Required Prerequisites

 To access the course, linguist competence corresponding to the A2 level of the QCER is required, certification is not necessary

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance of the general and lecture course is not mandatory but highly recommended for the exercises

Detailed Course Content


The general course includes activities on communicative functions, analysis of authentic or didactic documents and linguistic reflection on the morpho-syntactic structures relating to the reference level. The in-depth course includes activities on the use of the dictionary and elements of translation. The lecture course includes exercises on morpho-syntactic structures and on reformulation, analysis of dossiers.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures


The exam includes a written test and an oral test. The two tests take place on the same day, except in the case where, exceptionally, there is an excessive number of booked participants. A positive outcome of the written test determines access to the oral exam. The written test includes: written comprehension with vocabulary and reformulation activities, grammatical transformation and completion exercises. The oral exam involves the presentation of the texts presented respectively in class and in the lecture hall.

 The evaluation criteria that are followed to ascertain preparation are set out:

- Communication ability

- Knowledge of the topics covered

- Ability to organize and reprocess knowledge

- Linguistic and phonetic correctness

- Lexical adequacy

The final mark for the entire course, expressed in thirtieths, will derive from the average of the marks obtained in the three parts (written test, interview with the native speaker teacher, interview with the teacher in charge of the course) and will in any case take into account the positive results achieved in tests or interviews possibly taken during the carrying out of the relevant teaching activities.

Optional ongoing tests are planned mid-course and at the end of the course to help students prepare for the exam. The results of the partial tests will be included in the final evaluation.

Written test: provide a definition, synonym or translation of the following term in the text; reformulate the article; make the agreement of the past participle if necessary; translate the sentences e.g. what were they doing?
