Operational and Scientific Structures
The Department of Educational Sciences provides PhD candidates with operational and scientific facilities to support their research activities.
Equipment and/or Laboratories
There are three multimedia classrooms for teaching and research: one at Palazzo Ingrassia, one at the Via Ofelia site, and one at the Verginelle Complex. In addition, eight workstations are available in the library. At the Via Ofelia Complex, ten laboratories are active, including the Laboratory of Educational Research, the Laboratory of Cognitive Sciences, the Laboratory of Philosophy, Science and Society, the Laboratory of Educational and Didactic Design, as well as laboratories dedicated to Social and Intercultural Phenomena and the Analysis of Collective Phenomena.
Library Holdings
The Library of the Department of Education Sciences holds a total of 114,173 printed monographs, plus 168 shared with the CDB – Documentation and University Libraries Centre. The library collection broadly covers all the topics envisaged by the interdisciplinary nature of the doctoral programme, including the human, pedagogical, social, psychological and historical sciences.
The Periodicals Section of the Library currently contains 10,584 volumes of printed journals, corresponding to 973 journal titles. The holdings fully reflect the themes of the programme.
Moreover, access is guaranteed to the main databases and electronic journal collections relevant to pedagogy, sociology and psychology (Scopus, Web of Science, JSTOR, PsychInfo).
E-Resources
The Department of Educational Sciences offers PhD candidates the following services: an internal Data Processing Centre with an equipped and air-conditioned room; internal management of e-mail services; an institutional website; local databases; user file storage; and backup services, through which all network services are provided. In addition, a Microsoft Campus Agreement is available for the use of statistical and management software from the software house.
The facilities of the Department of Educational Sciences enable PhD candidates to carry out their research activities effectively not only thanks to the extensive library holdings but also due to the high quality of bibliographic research tools and documentation retrieval systems that support research. Finally, a dedicated room equipped with internet connection and IT facilities is available for PhD candidates.
