Francesco MAIORANA

Adjunct Professor of INFORMATICS [INF/01]

From a young age, Francesco has nurtured his passion for study and research, thanks to his parents and grandparents.

He learned to have fun and enjoy studying.  As a full-time father and teacher, he tries to impart to his son, children in foster care as well as his students the same passion for the study he has experienced.

Engaged in university research he learns, day by day, to combine these three aspects, namely father, teacher and researcher, thanks to the advice of the people around him.

Francesco Maiorana is a Computer Science (CS) / Information Technology (IT) non-tenure-track Professor at the Department of Education, University of Catania, a high school CS/IT teacher, a Scientix ambassador and a CoderDojo Champion, member of the ACM Society, ACM Special Interest Groups on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE), Accessibility (SIGACCESS), Computer and Society (SIGCAS), Associazione Italiana Calcolo Automatico (AICA), Association of Teachers Education in Europe (ATEE), British Educational Research Association (BERA), Computing At School (CAS), Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA), European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI), IEEE, IEEE Education Society.

He has 25 years of teaching experience at graduate and undergraduate level, in high school, and, in an informal setting, with primary and middle school students. He has also professional teaching experience in pre-service and initial teacher training, teacher professional development and specialization courses for Special Education Needs (SEN) teachers.

He published more than 60 publications in international journals and conferences with the first one in 2004 with, according to Google Scholar, an H-index of 12 and an i10-index of 15. He has experiences inside International, European, National, Regional and local research projects. His research interest lies on Computer Science Educational Research, Educational Technology, Data mining, and Medical Informatics.
